ASSEMBLY/INSPECTION

Why would you want a professional e-bike technician assembling your new Direct-To-Consumer E-bike you ask?

Buying an E-bike online and having it shipped to you for final assembly is a great way of saving yourself some money. This can however have its drawbacks.

When you buy from a local bike shop, you pay more for many reasons. One of the main ones being that the bike gets a thorough inspection by a professional mechanic before assembly and any issues like paint left behind on the brake tabs or not properly adjusted parts can be remedied before you buy it.

Generally speaking, Direct-To-Consumer E-bike brands don’t have a great reputation for final quality control checks before shipping your new E-bike to you. This is where Ride All Day comes in to make sure your E-bike is as safe and fun to ride as any from a more expensive local shop.

  • Packaging, most E-bikes come shipped with A LOT of packaging, and we will recycle and dispose properly
  • E-bikes are heavy and not easy to manoeuvre around, they can weigh anywhere from 25 Kgs (50 lbs) up to 55+Kgs (120+lbs)!
  • Frame not prepared properly before parts attached at factory. The brake calipers, bottom bracket and headset will not have been faced (the removal of paint and small debris left-over from the welding process) and you may have issues in the future because of these cost savings by the manufacturer.
  • Improper greasing of important parts - another cost saving is using the bare minimum of lubrication in things like adjustable stems, headsets, and bottom brackets. We will ensure that your E-bike will stay greasy for a long time.
  • Poor quality hardware (nuts and bolts) that are difficult to use and can strip or break easily
  • Torque specifications. You now have a powerful electric motor between your legs. Things on E-bikes can loosen up much easier because of the increased vibrations from the motor. Is everything attached to a proper torque spec for safety?
  • Installing pedals correctly. The number one issue consumers have with assembling their own E-bike is installing your pedals incorrectly, causing the crank arm(s) to be stripped out. This can in some cases be repaired, but it shouldn’t have to happen in the first place.
  • Final adjustments. You will probably have to do a final adjustment to your rear derailleur/shifting system. You might also need to fine tune your disc brakes to get full stopping power and modulation. All E-bikes assembled get test ridden!

Assembly/Safety Checkover $100

So you’ve assembled your e-bike. Now what? How many bicycles have you assembled? How many e-bikes? Is it really ready to ride?

More importantly, is it safe to ride?

If you’re not 100% sure, Nelson is a steep city to find out the hard way!

A professional safety checkover includes the proper torque spec of all fasteners, brake setup, final shift tuning, tire pressure, and fitting you to your new e-bike.

Proper torque spec of all bolts, nuts and other attachments

Brake setup with power and modulation testing

Fine tuning of the shifting/gears

Correct tire pressure

Have you checked your brake pads recently? The one on the left is NOT what you want to see!

Worn Brake Pads!

Have you inspected your brake pads recently? 99% of e-bikes come with an "organic" brake pad. Which are quiet and quick to bed in, but they wear out very quickly. Especially here in Nelson, where you may have noticed the slight angle we live on...

We only use "metallic" compound brake pads when available.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR BRAKE PADS OFTEN!
